BMW Finance Claims

BMW finance claims start with a figure: this calculator applies the FCA's redress rules to your BMW Financial Services agreement before you register the free complaint with BMW. MINI agreements follow MINI's own Financial Services complaints procedure.

You can complain to BMW Financial Services yourself for free. The FCA says you do not need a claims company or a law firm to take part in its scheme. Register it on BMW's Motor Finance Redress Scheme page.

1About the agreement

Month and year is enough. It is on your agreement or your credit file. We use the 1st of the month and show that.

The title of your agreement says which type it is.

Any motor vehicle counts. Your answer does not change the figure.

Whose name was the agreement in? *

The scheme covers people, sole traders and small partnerships. It does not cover companies.

Did you live in the UK when you took out the finance? *

A complaint that is still open does not count.

Your answer does not change the figure. We use it to point you to that lender's free complaint route.

2The figures

£

Do not count your deposit. The FCA's rules call this the "total amount of credit".

%

The annual percentage rate on your agreement, for example 9.9. Tick "I do not know my APR" if you do not have it.

Count the monthly payments, for example 48. Leave it blank and we use 48 months, the default in the FCA's rules.

3Commission and extras

£

Most people do not know this, because your lender holds the figure. Leave it blank and we show a range.

Could the dealer choose your interest rate, and earn more commission for a higher rate?

This is a discretionary commission arrangement. We assume there was one when you are not sure. Your lender decides.

%

Only your lender knows this. Leave it blank if you do not know.

Did the dealer have to offer this lender's finance first, or only this lender's finance?

This is a tie. We do not assume one when you are not sure. A tie with a car maker's own finance company does not count where the dealer was a franchised dealer with the same branding.

Scheme status as of 14 October 2026: the Upper Tribunal has partly suspended the FCA scheme (PS26/3) since 1 July 2026 while it hears legal challenges. The hearing is listed for 16 to 26 February 2027. No scheme payments are expected before 2027.

BMW and MINI finance that can count

A BMW Financial Services PCP, hire purchase or conditional sale agreement qualifies when it was signed in the scheme window, 6 April 2007 to 1 November 2024, and commission was payable. Contract hire leases sit outside.

Larger loans meet one extra test. The scheme excludes credit above a yearly limit (CONRED 5.1.18R and 6.1.18R), from £38,000 in 2008 to £82,000 in 2023 and 2024, unless the car was built or adapted for a disabled driver or passenger.

MINI owners use the MINI Financial Services complaints procedure, which has its own complaint form.

Complain to BMW Financial Services for free

BMW asks for the vehicle registration, the finance agreement number, and any earlier postcode or surname you used at the time of the agreement. It also publishes a separate Customer Discretionary Commission Information Complaint Form on bmw.co.uk. The FCA list of lenders holds BMW's details as well.

Questions BMW customers ask

Does a tie with a BMW dealer count?

Not by itself. A tie between a car maker's own finance company and a franchised dealer with visible shared branding is excluded (CONRED 5.2.20R), though that exclusion is being challenged. A DCA or high commission on a BMW deal still qualifies.

How do I find out whether my BMW deal had a DCA?

Ask BMW. Only the lender's records show whether there was a discretionary commission arrangement, a tie or high commission, so the calculator assumes a DCA and lets you change it.

Is BMW challenging the scheme?

No. BMW Financial Services is not one of the four challengers named by the FCA.

When will BMW pay?

Only after the Upper Tribunal process ends. During the suspension, no lender has to calculate or pay redress.
