MotoNovo agreements that can count
MotoNovo has financed cars, vans and bikes through UK dealers for over 40 years. Its PCP, HP and conditional sale deals dated 6 April 2007 to 1 November 2024 fall inside the scheme when commission was payable to the dealer.
MotoNovo is part of the Aldermore Group. FirstRand, the banking group behind it, booked an extra £518.4 million pre-tax provision for motor finance commission in its results to 30 June 2026.
MotoNovo and the Supreme Court
Two of the three appeals the Supreme Court decided on 1 August 2025, Johnson and Wrench, were against FirstRand trading as MotoNovo. Mr Johnson won his unfair relationship claim: the dealer's commission was 25% of the advance and 55% of the total charge for credit, and its tie with MotoNovo was not disclosed.
The court ordered that commission repaid with interest; the FCA scheme applies its own tests to every agreement.
